SEALS was held in Miri Malaysia from the 2nd to the 7th of December 2011. SEALS (South East Asian Leadership Seminar) is held about once every 18 months or so in Malaysia or Australia. Any member of Soo Bahk Do can go to SEALS from White belt up to Ko Dan Ja. SEALS is to best place to improve and standardize your techniques and forms in a friendly and supportive seminar and learn about foreign culture and make new friends. At SEALS you will meet the Kwan Jang Nim H.C. Hwang ( our Grand Master ), Ko Dan Ja ( 4th Dan and above ) and students from all over the world. This year we had participants from Australia ( Darwin, Melbourne and Canberra ), Malaysia ( Miri, Limbang, Bintulu, Sibu ), Brunei, Korea and the USA. The Australian participants with our Kwan Jang Nim H.C. Hwang This years theme was Moo Do Jaseh, within that were five objectives, Good Training, Cultural Exchange, Strengthening our Identity, Leadership and Human Relations. We certainly covered all of those objectives with the following activities: - Womens Self Defence course run by Broman SBN and Andersson SBN with the local Chinese community ( about 120 participants ).
- Cultural activities, Gua Longhouse, Borneo Rainforest Resort, Kampung Bidayuh village and the closing dinner and ceremony ( international cultural displays ).
- Training, Philosophy, History, PVT ( Presidents Vision Tour talks and presentations ) Group Projects and Demos and Shim Sa.
- Social dinners and activities.

The next SEALS will be held in Adelaide in 2013 with details to be released in the new year. Have a chat to the 2011 attendees and start planning for your participation in SEALS and make the next SEALS, Your SEALS!

Katherine Moo Duk Kwan had a visit from Austin SBN and number of other Region 1 Dan & Gup members for two days of training, a Gup grading and a Women's self defence course. Everyone had a great time and we hope to be back again some day. Photos are in the Photo Gallery . |
